What size should my coffee table be?

The proper height for a coffee table is the same height as the cushions on your sofa or 1-2 inches lower. A coffee table should be approximately two-thirds the length of your sofa. There should be between 12-18 inches of space between a coffee table and the seating surrounding it. The coffee table should be the same as or 1-2 inches lower than the sofa’s seat height. However, there can be caveats to this rule. You may base the height of your coffee table on the sizes of other surrounding furniture or on your personal design preferences.

How high should a coffee table be?

It should be no lower than 1-2 inches from the seat of your couch. The standard height for a table is 16-18 inches and pairs well with a typically sized couch. A higher sofa requires a taller table, one that is 20-21 inches in height.

How far should a coffee table be from the couch?

Allow around 18″ between the table and sofa edge to give enough leg room but to be able to set down drinks or reach appetizers without straining. Coffee table heights vary greatly, but a good rule is to keep the table height and seat height within 4 inches of each other.
